E3 2016: All the News From Xbox’s Press Conference

Xbox1s 2

Microsoft opened the second day of E3 and straight away they brought out their new console; the Xbox One S, slimmer (40% smaller), cheaper and with a 2TB hard drive. The console is due to come out this year for $299. One is seemingly never enough and at the end of the show they confirmed Scorpio, ‘the most powerful game console ever made’.

It promises 4K gameplay with high fidelity graphics, the video we got talking about the new box also mentioned VR support, Fallout 4 being confirmed that it’s coming with VR to Scorpio. If you want to play Fallout 4 in VR on the Scorpio, you’ll have to wait a while, the release is scheduled for holiday 2017. Could this be too late for a beefy VR capable console as Sony launches the Neo this year?

A smaller piece of news on the hardware front, Microsoft showed Xbox Design Lab, allowing people to customize the updated controller that is due to come out with the slim. People can change colours of all the different components that make up the controller as well as laser engraving text onto the front of the controller.

Onto the gaming, Gears of War 4 was up first, showing off some gritty gameplay and pointing out, what they repeatedly stressed throughout the show, that Gears 4 is a ‘Play Anywhere’ game. You can buy it on either Xbox One or PC and get the other version for free, so you can go straight from playing the game at home, to picking it up right where you left off on your Windows 10 laptop. Gears also features cross-play, allowing PC and Xbox players to fight alongside or against each other.

Another game to support these features is Forza Horizon 3, set in Australia in the “largest and most diverse” world to drive around in as well as the most cars ever in a Forza game. It’s due to come out 27th September.

Also coming in September after its delay, ReCore got a great trailer showing off the robots that will help you traverse the strange world. Along with screenshots that leaked yesterday, we have a good look into this new world. It is coming to both Xbox One and PC.

The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red is bringing Gwent into its own game, the card game is coming to Xbox One and PC.

Minecraft was also there, showing off cross-play and VR support.

Zombies wise, Dead Rising 4 was officially announced after a few leaks last week. Frank West is back, fully embracing his photography skills with selfies on a smartphone. He is also seen wearing an exo suit picking up parking meters and using them as clubs. Its set in a huge mall and a large outside area and as if directed by Shane Black, it’s set at Christmas! It’s due to come out holiday season this year on both Xbox One and PC.

State of Decay 2 was also shown off for the first time, the trailer didn’t give away much, but gave us a look at the updated graphics and had an emphasis on team play, co-op zombie survival mode anyone?

Lastly, a gorgeous Halo Wars 2 trailer was brought out, featuring a new enemy for the Halo universe, its being developed by CA, the guys behind Total War, and is due to come out 21st February 2017 with a beta live right now!

With Ubisoft and Sony still to present at E3 today, expect lots more surprises and leaks to be confirmed.
