Cameron’s Relationship with Netanyahu Exposes His “Security” Hypocrisy

Throughout his campaign for Labour leadership, Jeremy Corbyn was accused by the centrist and right-wing guardians of sanity of keeping bad company, in the form of Hamas and Hezbollah. Talking to those groups must signify support for their homophobia and anti-Semitism, they screamed triumphantly. If you want lasting peace in a tumultuous region, you must ignore the representatives of the oppressed and heap praise upon arms on the oppressor.

Does it matter that Hamas were democratically elected by Palestinians in free and fair elections in 2006? No. Does it matter that James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence in the USA, omitted Hezbollah from 2015’s terrorism threat assessment report because they are combatting ISIS, proving in foreign politics that today’s enemy could be tomorrow’s ally? Of course not.

If only David Cameron faced the same molten scrutiny for the leaders whom he calls chums. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, one of his nearest and dearest, visited Blighty last Thursday to instruct him on how to further Palestinian suffering while looking like he’s helping the synthetic peace process. Cameron welcomed the fascist who daubed last summer crimson with the blood of over 2000 Palestinians in Operation Protective Edge, a ‘defensive’ evisceration of a stateless people stripped of their humanity. Condemnation of Netanyahu’s visit by vociferous pro-Palestinian protesters, who clashed with pro-Israeli supporters outside Downing Street, was largely unreported.

The Israeli government’s impunity was exemplified by the Conservative’s response to a petition that was circulating before Netanyahu’s visit, calling for his arrest for the multiple horrors committed against Palestinians in last year’s bloodbath. It amassed over 110, 000 signatures from people who showed that being disgusted at systematic slaughter was not the sole preserve of socialists. Fearing one of their key allies could be indicted, morally degenerate addicts to blood drenched capital shielded the Israeli PM, claiming his diplomatic immunity to prosecution rendered them as helpless as a Palestinian child incinerated in a racist arson attack. One got the impression that our allegedly impotent executive wouldn’t have done anything even if they could.

Cameron, who has never knowingly cared for the disempowered, is an apologist for Netanyahu’s fascism. Israel’s geopolitical significance means Cameron gladly overlooks every African refugee brutally deported by the Israeli state and condemns every Palestinian resistance fighter to keep the regional superpower and pro-Israeli donors on side. Notwithstanding their shambolic human rights record, sanctions being placed on Israel are utterly unthinkable because it would be catastrophic for Britain’s national interests. Netanyahu openly discriminates against gentile minorities while world leaders make feeble pleas for ‘restraint’ at best and shriek deafening support at worst.
Palestinian suffering is the tragedy that dare not speak its name.

The capitalist media reports on the factional frenzy in Syria extensively, because the despotic Bashar Al Assad is an expendable enemy. Contrastingly, the Palestinians’ plight is a mere whisper in a hurricane, an infuriating spectacle of ritualistic humiliation tolerated because of Israel’s economic strength and Zionists emotionally manipulating the most unambiguously horrifying atrocity of the twentieth century, the Holocaust.

For our noble PM, Hamas’s repeated fireworks displays, or rocket attacks, are not self-defence against Israeli occupation, but an outrageous attempt to resist subjugation from a ‘fragile’, nuclear-armed state. For our courageous PM, the treasure garnered from strong trade ties with Israel is infinitely more valuable than Palestinians’ security. For our compassionate PM, Palestinian lives will never, in this lifetime, be worth as much as Israeli ones. As long as the Conservative party is in power, they will continue to foster resentment in Palestinians, who believe those who have the power to help them wilfully intensify their already grotesque pain.
