Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remaster – What You Need to Know

CoD Modern Warfare

Following the recent announcement from Activision of a Modern Warfare remaster coming with this year’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, fans have been desperately clambering to know whether they can pick up the classic game without purchasing this new, futuristic instalment.

Unfortunately, a recent FAQ on Activision’s website has answered that question with a resounding “no”. This isn’t exactly shocking news, but it’s still not something that we all wanted to hear. In addition to this rather bleak confirmation, the FAQ also answered several other questions that the fans have been asking.

For example, we now know that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will not be available on a disc (at launch, at least), but will instead be a full-game download bundled with the Infinite Warfare Legacy and Legacy Pro editions; which come in at £80 and £110, respectively. The latter of these two editions will only be available from retailer GAME in the UK, and comes with both titles, as well as the now-standard season pass, and “additional bonus content”.

The site also answers other questions, such as “What type of movement system will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered have?” (Answer: the same as the old game), and “On what gaming systems is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered available?”. The latter of which seems fairly pointless, because Infinite Warfare is only coming out on next-gen consoles, and so, naturally, as is Modern Warfare.

Now, although the FAQ states that you’ll need Infinite Warfare to play the Modern Warfare remaster, it’s not specific as to whether this just means the code comes with the game. It’s entirely possible that codes for the iconic shooter will be popping up on eBay after the game’s release, which is where I’ll personally be looking to purchase it. As much as I can find enjoyment from Call of Duty every now and then, I can’t see myself forking out £80 to play a single game, and have another merely gather dust.

What would be particularly dastardly would be if Infinity Ward required you to insert the Infinite Warfare disc in order to play the remaster. Would they stoop to this level? Only time will tell, but here’s hoping I can pick up the classic without having to grab the new instalment.
