Addition of Jar Jar Binks Vastly Improves Rogue One Poster

Just over a week ago the new poster for the greatly anticipated Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released to a reasonably positive reception from fans. The poster shows the stoic, steely eyed faces of the  title characters with the mask of Darth Vader ominously looming over them. However, even two decades on, the franchise is still reeling from the goofy Gungan abomination that is Jar Jar Binks and it was only a matter of time before freelance illustrator and Empire magazine designer Olly Gibbs got to work and injected some much needed Binks into this otherwise very dramatic poster.

With the fine tuned skill of a true artist, Gibbs replaced the faces of every character on the poster to that of Binks. All of them. He even altered the robot to make it look for Jar Jar-esque – it’s truly stunning. After the success of The Force Awakens last year Star Wars is once again at the forefronts of pop culture and although Disney seem eager to drift as far away as possible from the prequels, some things never quite fade away.

While some fans indulge in bizarre conspiracy theories suggesting the importance of Binks in the film series and many more suggesting the possibility of his cinematic return, this poster stands alone as simply being a wonderfully humorous image which I am sure even the most die-hard Star Wars fans will allow themselves to chuckle at. Though even the mention of the prequels may put people on edge, if Rogue One manages to meet the same standard as Force Awakens then fans can breathe easy and enjoy the unlimited stream of Jar Jar jokes.
