Money can’t buy you love. It’s a fact because The Beatles said it and if any band had worldly wisdom pre-experimentation with hallucinogenics, it was those guys. I should think that nobody needs reminding of the true, consumerist motives behind Valentine’s day, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t see the novelty in it and want to brighten up the day of our loved ones without splashing the cash. Here are 7 ideas to help you do just that!
1. Heart Toast
All it takes is toasted bread and jam to put a smile on your partner’s face. Best served with a big mug of tea/coffee whilst they are sat in bed.
2. A Candlelit Bubble Bath
Does your partner have a stressful job? Running them a bubble bath, especially one surrounded by scented candles, may be the perfect way to help them to relax and put them in the mood for romance.
3. A Mixtape
A mixtape, along with its more modern counterparts, the mix CD or shared playlist, will never stop being a classic gift to demonstrate affection. Why? It costs very little money but it takes time and dedication on your part to pick the perfect songs that describe how you feel.
4. Create A Special Drink
If you’re the kind of person with a well-stocked booze cupboard or even a soft-drink addict, it’s time to experiment. Mix drinks with your partner, recording the ingredients and rating them upon tasting. When you find your favourite creation, that is now your special drink and is only for the two of you to drink, on every future Valentine’s Day you spend together.
5. Put On A Performance
For couples with a good sense of humour only. Play your partner one of their favourite songs whilst you be goofy, dance around and lip-sync to it. It’s free and if done right, it can be hilarious!
6. Watch A Film They Love
Get the snacks and blankets out and mentally prepare yourself for Moulin Rouge, Fight Club or whatever film it happens to be that they love and you would normally refuse to watch. In the best case scenario, you might actually like it and if not, they’ll certainly appreciate your efforts and may reciprocate them in the future.
7. First Date, Version 2.0
What did you do on your first date? Where were you when you first met? Can you re-enact one of those scenarios? If so, this is a great way to not only show that it was a special moment for you but you can also reflect on how things have progressed from the moment and how (hopefully!) you wouldn’t change a thing!
